With these woodwind instruments, the reed is enclosed in a windcap. Rauschpfeifen are very similar to the
Cornamuse, but their much greater volume makes them a perfect choice for performing outdoors. Because of the windcap, producing a sound is as easy as with a recorder.
The word "rauschpfeife" is german in origin, literally meaning "reed pipe". "Schreyerpfeife" (meaning "screamer pipe") and "Schryari" are other names of this instrument.
