The Hümmelchen is a German Renaissance bagpipe that was practically forgotten for a long time, but was rediscovered in the 1970s and has since become an integral part of the medieval folk scene. It is quieter than many other bagpipe models, plays sufficiently well at room volume and can therefore be combined nicely with other instruments even when unamplified.
If you want to start playing the bagpipes, you are well advised to use this instrument, because it draws much less air and needs less air pressure than the famous Scottish Great Highland Bagpipe or the Marktsack. In addition, the drone can be plugged, so even less air is needed, which makes it easier for beginners to concentrate on learning the basic techniques.
The wooden parts of our Hümmelchen are made of rosewood, the bellows are made of cowhide, which was manufactured and tanned according to EU standards. The reeds are from quality manufacturers and are made of plastic. This makes them more robust and less in need of maintenance than reeds made of real reed. Our Hümmelchen is characterized by its excellent response and tuning stability. The drone is tuned to D, the scale of the chanter to D minor with some additional notes: C4-D4-E4-F4-G4-A4-Bb4-B4-C5-C#5-D5.
