The german name "Gemshorn" implies the use of the horn of the chamois, but normally Gemshorn are produced from cow horn. The opening is closed with a block and labia plus fingerholes are cut, so you get an okarina-like, closed recorder. Only used in germany from the late middle ages into Baroque aera, the gemshorn was more or less an unimportant instrument. But the warm sound is enchanting, leading the gemshorn into its own, modern renaissance!
We provide the whole gemshorn range from supranino to double bass.
