Mandocello - based on our guitar cittern
Over the years we have been asked again and again why we do not design other instruments in the design of our guitar cisterns: Bouzoukis, Mandocelli, Cittern, Blarges .... a good idea, we thought. Somehow historical, but somehow modern again.
Our mandocello is one of the results of this thought process. The distances between the pairs of strings are much wider than you are used to with a conventional bouzouki. Those who come from the guitar realms should especially appreciate this, because on the guitar the distances between the strings are similarly wide. The instrument has a Fishman Presys+ pickup with built-in tuner.
Do not be irritated by the stringing. In the photos you can see our Irish Bouzouki Cister, which is practically identical in construction. The mandocello is strung with unison strings tuned in C (C2) - G (G2) - d (D3) - a (A3). You can see and hear what I mean by watching the video!
