Description

The “Lochamer Liederbuch” is amongst the most influential sources for German-language music of the 15th century. As one of the first traditional German songbooks it contains mostly monophonic songs and an instrumental part. The latter includes a special feature with the "Fundamentum organisandi", a kind of composition or improvisation doctrine for the keyboard instrument. In vocal music such instructions had long been a tradition, but in instrumenal music it was a novelty and clearly associates this part of the songbook with similar qualities found in the famous “Buxheimer Orgelbuch”.

Like the first edition, this edition strives to present the source material in a practical manner that supports proper performance. The new volume also continues with the principles formulated in the first volume: again, 10 monophonic and polyphonic songs with the corresponding transcribed instrumental parts. As in the first volume, in individual cases further instrumental versions from the “Buxheimer Orgelbuch” are added to put the songs into an historically appropriate context that shows in which way they were adapted, changed and revised already in the 15th century.

Besides well-known tunes like "Ich spring an disem ringe" and "Der winter will hin weichen", transcribed versions of which appear here with new and surprising insights at times, there are also contemplative and very refined compositions included in the edition, amongst them, for example "Ach meiden, du vil sende pein" and "Des klaffers neiden", which include equally ambitious instrumental accompaniments.
